Legend says that Atlantis city was built by Poseidon, god of sea when he fell in love with a mortal woman Cleito. He made this city on top of a nearby hill and named it Atlantis. It is believed that he walked through these islands until he reached the biggest of them all- Atlantis and found it to be inhabited by people more beautiful and intelligent than rest of the world. It is here he first saw his future wife and fell in love with her.

It's impossible to recover a movement blur with a sharpening filter : a sharpening filter will only add noise in this case but it will never recover details.
TOPAZ AI SHARPEN includes a new function called STABILIZE that is different from a simple sharpening filter. It tries to find a movement on the photo and to cancel it. That's why sometimes there are small artifacts on the opposite side of the movement, but it is really easy to deal with them with GIMP or photoshop.
To conclude : this tool deserves a try as it is free for 30 days.
It is very usefull for animals in movement (birds in flight, animals running ...), but it can manage movement of the photographer too.

I am still learning to use my new raya pro software and digged out this image from HK i made 2015. There is a very bright portion of the sky on top of the image but it was not possible to use a filter to darken that part because there is no filter with such a form.
Therefore i originally made three bracketed images (-2EV, 0, +2EV) and merged them with Photomatix for my first edit.
Now i used the Raya Pro software for my second edit and got a much more natural looking result where the colours and saturation are much closer to the original.

This took longer to set up then to photograph. If you do have ago at this, don't forget to add water or the refraction will not work.
Refraction is the change in direction of wave propagation due to a change in its
transmission medium, in this case water.

This is the rear entrance to an old office building on 6th street here in Austin, Texas. Probably built around 1860 or so. I took it this last weekend while down at the Pecan street festival. There weren't any really great shots from the festival but I was able to get some cool shot from town.

NGC 1931, found in the constellation Auriga has been referred to as a "miniature version of the Orion Nebula", as it shares some of the same characteristics. It is a mixed emission-reflection nebula, and contains a smaller version of the Trapezium in its hot young star cluster centered in the emission nebula. The entire cluster/nebula complex is only about 3 arcmin in size. The distance from earth is estimated at about 7000 light years

Some software experts posed with me for a group portrait a couple months ago.
Top (L to R) is Christina, Lisa, Kandi, Cristy, and Jane.
Lower (L to R) is me and Jenna.
The concept was to publicly display some favorite software: real or faux.
I, for one, was initially surprised at the number of software experts in my collection of friends. In retrospect - maybe that should not be surprising.
After all, arguing with any one of us expert women is like reading a software license agreement...
...in the end, you ignore it all and click "I agree".
Resistance is futile.
Enjoy

These light cubes are situated next to High Tech Center (HTC) in Ruoholahti district of Helsinki. Pretty nice effect they give when it's twilight time. To give it a bit more effect, I've done some post processing using HDR software.
Another year is almost over, hopefully we can emerge from the shadows soon although much still remains out of focus.
Handheld shot with FE 85mm f1.4 GM late in the evening along this historical street.
Haven’t bought any photographic gear this year although a couple of lenses are firmly in my sight.
The 70-200mm f2.8 zoom is a lens I’ve avoided thus far as it typically weighs as much as a high end 100-400mm zoom which is too much unless we are just carrying this lens alone.
Then came Tamron FE 70-180mm f2.8 (815g) and Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS (1,070g), both however do not work with teleconverters (TC) and the Tamron additionally omits lens stabilization.
Had some initial interest in the Tamron but the just released Sony FE 70-200mm 2.8 GM OSS ii (1,045g) has both lens stabilization which is more effective than IBIS at the long end and works with TCs which can get me to 400mm f5.6 if needed. My FE 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 GM OSS works flawlessly with 2x TC and I expect the same for the new FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM ii.
The Tamron is $1,199 vs the Sony GM ii $2,798 (same as Canon’s RF version), a substantial difference. Looking at the photos taken with the Tamron, it’s a nice lens but there’s no “wow” quality in the photos taken and there are also some distracting structures within the specular highlights.
The photos from the new FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM OSS ii however, are impressive. If we don’t use a 70-200mm f2.8 zoom too often and does not need more than 8fps or TC compatibility, the Tamron version makes a lot of sense. Canon and Sony users have access to lots of lens choices, the same cannot be said for Nikon however.
It seems that Sony achieved significant weight reduction without making compromises in TC compatibility or omitting stabilization but with a more efficient design with less glass used in GM ii with 17 elements compared to 23 in the older version. Is this advancement all due to improved glass quality or software?
I do wonder if they can do the same with their future generation 2 100-400 GM and 200-600 G zooms when the time comes, perhaps even with the soon to be launched 24-70 GM ii?
Meanwhile Tamron has just released their FE 28-75mm f2.8 G2 which appears to be an improved version of its highly popular 1st Gen lens. Personally I’ll rather wait and see what Sony will do with their imminent FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM ii replacement.
Advances in lens making have produced zooms capable of matching Prime lenses at equivalent apertures. For this reason, I stopped bothering with Primes which are just 1 stop faster than f2.8 zooms especially at focal lengths below 85mm.
Those who had aggressively suggested that the Batis 135mm f2.8 was reasonable at $2,000 are clearly shills, you can easily identify these fellas from the various gear forums by now. I’ve spoken out against the value of Batis lenses from inception and in particular the 135mm f2.8 since its release. We really need to be wary of these marketing shills as they are so rampant in gear forums masquerading as hobbyists these days. flic.kr/p/GC4PWY

Affinity by Canva: First Impressions
Credit: Giuseppe Donatiello
I spent half an hour learning/evaluating Affinity by Canva.
It's not an intuitive software, especially for those who aren't very experienced with editing, but it quickly makes you realize it's not one of those toy apps. Affinity is powerful, however, and includes a wealth of editing and graphics tools on par with more well-known and very expensive software.
It's not a product for astrophotography, so its value can be best demonstrated by its performance on non-ordinary images.
I limited myself to the Pixel section, i.e., photo editing, and after some testing, I ventured into processing a raw TIFF image of M42 (box 1), a subject rich in nuances, tones, and a myriad of details.
Even with the basic settings (box 2), the result is very satisfying. However, it's by exploring the advanced tools that I discover extremely useful applications for astrophotography, such as generating false-color images (box 3) and applying powerful and incredibly simple deconvolutional algorithms.
The use of deep learning in many tools is all too evident, and it's important/recommended not to get too carried away. The experienced user will know how much to use and, above all, when to stop to avoid entering the minefield of overprocessing, which is unfortunately widespread, where artifacts are considered objective details.
For software that has become free, can you expect more?

Giving Nik Software HDR efex Pro 2 a test run. I'm not big into HDR, but sometimes it's just kinda necessary (in small amounts). Now that I've got an awesome tripod of awesomeness, it's time I learned to embrace it.
Also thinking it might be time to leave my beloved CNX2. I love it. I wish they would upgrade it and fix all the problems with it and maybe give us a few more features, but it's been YEARS since NX2 was released, there's been no news from nik software of any intention of upgrading it, and their newest versions of the plug-ins aren't even compatible with NX..... sigh....
Testing CS6 with the nik software plug-ins now to see if I can make it close enough to NX2 to convince myself to make the switch.
